What is Taekwon–Do?

Tae: to use the foot to kick , jump and smash

Kwon: to use the hand to block, strike and punch.

Do: Art or way of.founded by General Choi Hong Hi, a Korean Army General in the 1950’s.

It consists of attack and defensive movements, with a lot of emphasis on kicking techniques.
Taekwon-do training is both aerobic, anaerobic with flexibility exercises, body conditioning and co-ordination .

Taekwon-do training promotes a healthy body and mind. Taekwon-do students follow the 5 tenets: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit. As laid down by the founder.

Taekwon-do training consists of
Fundamental exercises.: (learning the Taekwon-do techniques).
Patterns: (series of movements of attack & defence against a imaginary opponent)
Various forms of sparring: (simulated combat against a opponent).
Pad and bag work: (develop the power of Taekwon-do ).
Power tests: (using the various weapons the human body can produce .
Against various materials and targets).
Flying Techniques: show your agility
Self defence techniques: (releasing and throwing)
Competitions: test your Taekwon-do skills against other students.


To teach authentic Taekwon-do in Cambridge, Newmarket and  USAF Lakenheath .

Senior Master Derek Blackburn is a 8th degree, internationally recognized  Taekwon- do instructor, with over 30 years Teakwon-do experience. Having taught Taekwon-do for  over 20 years.

Senior Master Blackburn is also a qualified Taekwon-do examiner, tournament Referee & umpire.

Senior Master Blackburn is also a Associate member of the British Association or Physical Training.

Senior Master Blackburn is fully insured and has had a enhanced CRB check.

A.C.E. Taekwon-Do is a Society for Traditional and Authentic Taekwon-Do.  The Society has been established by Grandmaster Paul Cutler, who studied directly under First Grandmaster Rhee Ki Ha and General Choi Hong Hi, the founder of Taekwon-Do.  A.C.E. Taekwon-Do is an organisation that strives to uphold the integrity and goals of General Choi Hong Hi & First Grandmaster Rhee Ki Ha, which includes following the guidelines and principles set forth in the Student Oath, the Tenets of Taekwon-Do, Moral Culture and Martial Art Ethics.

A.C.E. Taekwon-Do  promotes the values, practice, and teachings of Taekwon-Do,  as developed by the Founder General Choi Hong Hi and carried on by the ‘best ever student of Taekwon-Do’ First Grandmaster Rhee Ki Ha. A.C.E. Taekwon-Do will preserve the highest standards of Technical Excellence and teaching practices in the art of Taekwon-Do.

A.C.E. Taekwon-Do is rich in tradition, but continuously moves forward. It aims to bring all true Taekwon-Do practitioners together to follow these same guidelines.  A.C.E. Taekwon-Do welcomes Taekwon-Do Schools & Instructors with our same mind set.

A.C.E. Taekwon-Do will operate in accordance with the guidelines laid out in the Encyclopaedia of Taekwon-Do by the Founder, General Choi Hong Hi prior to his passing in 2002, and furthered by the teachings of First Grand Master Rhee.
